NBA Season Preview: Sacramento Kings

Sam Amico

Camp Location:Golden 1 Center Practice Facility, Sacramento, Calif.

Coach:Dave Joerger, first year with Kings, three years overall; 147-99

Last Season:33-49, did not make playoffs.

Key Returnees:DeMarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay, Willie Cauley-Stein, Darren Collison, Ben McLemore, Omri Casspi, Kosta Koufos.

Key Additions:Arron Afflalo (New York), Matt Barnes (Memphis), Skal Labissiere (rookie, Kentucky), Anthony Tolliver (Detroit), Georgios Papagiannis (Greece), Lamar Patterson (Atlanta), Garrett Temple (Washington), Malachi Richardson (rookie, Syracuse).

Key Losses:Rajon Rondo (Chicago), Marco Belinelli (Charlotte), Quincy Acy (Dallas), James Anderson (Turkey), Caron Butler (free agent), Seth Curry (Dallas), Eric Moreland (free agent, Cleveland).

Outlook:This is a team with a real superstar in DeMarcus Cousins but also a temperamental star in Cousins. But the Kings don't necessarily go as Cousins goes. He always plays well. It's really up to the guys around him, and those guys have mostly been so-so. And it's hard to know if they have actually added enough help with the likes of Arron Afflalo and Matt Barnes. Oh, and Rudy Gay and the Kings would love to move on. Dave Joerger (Memphis) is the new coach, but these look like the same old Kings – decent, but hardly playoff material.
