Lakers reach out to Russell's reps about a meeting

The Los Angeles Lakers have reached out to the representatives former Lakers guard D'Angelo Russell about setting up a meeting, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

With the Brooklyn Nets reportedly on the verge of signing Kyrie Irving to a maximum-contract deal Sunday, they are expected to renounce their rights to Russell, an All-Star himself last season, which would make him an unrestricted free agent, though they could also work out a sign-and-trade deal if Russell has a team for which he'd prefer to play.

Russell was traded by the Lakers -- who used the second overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft to select him out of Ohio State -- to the Nets along with center Timofey Mozgov for Kyle Kuzma and Brook Lopez on June 22, 2017

The former Buckeye is reportedly most interested in remaining with the Nets or returning to the Lakers, according to our Ben Stinar.
