Mavericks have three-year deal prepared for center Powell

The Dallas Mavericks and center Dwight Powell are expected to agree to a three-year, $33 million contract once free agency begins Sunday night, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Powell, 27, recently picked up his $10.3 million player option for the 2019-20 season, with an eye on working out a longer-term deal with the Mavericks.

The 15th overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft out of Stanford by the Charlotte Hornets, Powell averaged a career-high 10.6 points along with 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 21.6 minutes in 77 games (22 starts) for the Mavericks last season, shooting 59.7 percent from the field, 30.7 percent from deep and 77.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The 6-foot-11, 240-pound Powell carries career averages of 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 17.8 minutes in 331 games (52 starts), with a shooting line of 55.3/29.8/75.0.
