Veteran guard Rondo returning to Lakers on two-year deal

Point guard Rajon Rondo has agreed on a two-year contract to head back to the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramon Shelburne of ESPN, rejoining former New Orleans Pelicans teammates Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.

Rondo, 33, averaged 9.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.2 steals in 29.8 minutes in 46 games (29 starts) in his first season with the Lakers, shooting 40.5 percent from the field, 35.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 63.9 percent from the free-throw line while playing on a one-year, $9 million pact.

Earlier Saturday, Los Angeles signed Cousins, Danny Green and Quinn Cook and reached agreements to bring back Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and JaVale McGee.

The 21st overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft out of Kentucky by the Phoenix Suns, Rondo carries career numbers of 10.4 points, 4.8 boards, 8.5 dimes and 1.7 steals in 31.7 minutes in 825 games (726 starts), along with a shooting line of 46.0/31.5/60.5.

A four-time All-Star, Rondo won an NBA championship ring as the starting point guard for the 2007-08 Boston Celtics.
