The Milwaukee Bucks have hired Chase Buford as coach of the G League's Wisconsin Herd, the team announced in a news release.

Buford, 30, is the son of San Antonio Spurs executive R.C. Buford.

“I am thrilled to be the head coach of the Wisconsin Herd and to join the Bucks organization,” Chase Buford said. “I want to thank (Herd general manager) Dave Dean and the Bucks for giving me this opportunity in the G League. I am looking forward to developing young, talented players on and off the court. I cannot wait to get to work.”

Buford most recently served as an assistant with the Delaware Blue Coats, the Philadelphia 76ers' G League affiliate.

He also served as an assistant coach with the Erie Bayhawks and as coordinator of player development with the Chicago Bulls. His career began as a scout with the Atlanta Hawks.

“Chase has had wide-ranging basketball experiences over the past seven years, both in the G League and the NBA, and we believe he’s one of the bright young coaches in the game,” Dean said. “We are excited by his approach, fresh ideas and collaborative spirit."

As a player, Buford was a member of Kansas' 2008 national championship team.
