Celtics sign second-year guard Bird to two-year pact

The Boston Celtics have signed guard Jabari Bird to an NBA contract.

According to Sam Amick of USA Today, the deal is a two-year, $3 million pact.

The 6-foot-6, 198-pound Bird spent his rookie season in the NBA on a two-way deal with Boston, playing 13 games (1 start) for the Celtics and averaging 3.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 8.8 minutes, shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from deep.

For the Maine Red Claws, Boston's G League affiliate, Bird played and started 20 games and averaged 19.3 points, 5.8 boards, 2.7 dimes and 1.4 steals, shooting 51.7 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from the 3-point line.

Bird played four games for the Celtics in the Las Vegas Summer League earlier this month, averaging team-bests with 16.8 points and 6.0 rebounds, while also shooting a team-high 57.0 percent from the field.

Bird, 24, was selected with the 56th overall selection in the 2017 draft out of the University of California.
