Could Kings coach Joerger be next man up for Timberwolves?

There's another opening in the coaching rankings of the NBA now after the Minnesota Timberwolves decided on a change.

The team has moved on from former head coach and president Tom Thibodeau, and now are scouring the ranks to look for someone to lead the team into the future.

One interesting name to keep an eye on for the Wolves is Sacramento Kings head coach Dave Joerger, a native of Minnesota, who spoke about the opening and seems intrigued by it.

“Obviously I’m a Minnesota kid, so it’s interesting, but at the same time, my focus is right here, right now,” said Joerger, according to James Ham of NBC Sports California.

“I mean, we’re having a great time with our guys. We’re watching them grow every day. I feel like I’ve worked my tail off, I know the players have and the coaching staff — to put us in a position where we have tremendous chemistry.”

Ryan Saunders, the son of late Wolves coach Flip Saunders, is running the show as interim coach for now, but there's going to be a number of potential candidates for the job come April.

Ryan has done a nice job working his way up through the ranks after joining as an assistant in 2014 after several years in player development with the Washington Wizards.

Keep an eye on Joerger, as he's been doing a nice job with the Kings, and could be in the running for the spot in Minnesota should he push the issue.

He's led the Kings to a 20-21 mark and battling for playoff position in the Western Conference. It would make sense that the Wolves would chat with him (should he be interested in leaving) this offseason.
