It's taken a while for any coaching buzz to surface out of Orlando, but that all changed Saturday with the news that the Magic are set to interview a candidate.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Magic have received permission from the Portland Trail Blazers to talk to assistant coach David Vanterpool.
Magic general manager Jeff Weltman is making his first coaching hire for the franchise after firing Frank Vogel earlier this month.
Vanterpool, 45, is currently working under Blazers coach Terry Stotts and has been an assistant with the team for the previous six seasons.
Former NBA star and current G League coach Jerry Stackhouse and Toronto Raptors assistant Nick Nurse have also been linked to the Magic, the Sentinel reported, but neither is known to have lined up interviews to date.
