Handy says Leonard is 'doing great and moving well'

Former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach and now current Toronto Raptors assistant Phil Handy says Kawhi Leonard is in great shape and looks really good this summer.

Leonard is 100 percent and has no limitations in his workouts. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year only played in nine games this past season due to a lingering quadriceps injury and requested a trade from the San Antonio Spurs.

The Cavs didn't renew the contract of Handy and he was quickly picked up by the Raptors. Leonard has been training with Handy in California this offseason.

"He’s doing great. He’s in great shape," Handy told Toronto Talks Sports. "His body looks good. He’s feeling good. He's moving well, so I don’t anticipate any issues or problems.”

A league source told AmicoHoops in August that Leonard has been killing it during his offseason workouts and "looks remarkable." The two-time All-Star worked out with stars LeBron James and Kevin Durant at UCLA and was superb, reminding both James and Durant who the best two-way player in the NBA is.

James, Leonard and Durant were trying to work out with each other for a while and finally made it happen. Handy, who was present at the workout, says the session was very competitive.

“The level they worked at was at an all-time high," Handy told Toronto Talks Sports. "They just really competed. They pushed each other. They encouraged each other.”

Leonard will become an unrestricted free-agent in 2019. The Raptors can offer Leonard almost $50 million more than any other team in 2019, including a fifth year.

The Raptors have a great chance to get to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history with Leonard in the mix. Toronto had the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last season and is essentially replacing DeMar DeRozan with Leonard.
