Budenholzer, Hawks agree to part ways

Publish date:

Mike Budenholzer and the Atlanta Hawks are no more, the team announced in a press release Wednesday night.

Budenholzer and the organization are mutually parting ways, ending his first head coaching gig after five seasons with the same team. Budenholzer has been linked to other openings, including those in Phoenix and New York.

ESPN reported last week that Budenholzer had withdrawn his name from consideration from the Suns' vacancy. Other reports stated that he has his sights set strictly on the Knicks.

Budenholzer came to Atlanta after spending his entire NBA career as an assistant with the San Antonio Spurs (1996-2013). He compiled a 213-197 record with the Hawks, who missed the playoffs at 24-58 this year.

ESPN reported Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Stephen Silas could be a candidate in Atlanta.
