Report: LeBron's interest in Lakers is 'strong'

LeBron James is officially a unrestricted free agent after his camp notified the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday he will not exercise his $35.6 million option for next season and now the waiting game begins.

James is widely expected to pick between either staying in Cleveland on a one-plus-one deal or take his talents to California and join the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to a report from, James' interest in joining the Lakers is strong.

The Cavs can offer James the most money in free agency. The Lakers have cap space to sign two max contract players this summer and are currently aggressively trying to acquire San Antonio Spurs All-Star small forward Kawhi Leonard via trade.

James is reportedly hesitant to be the first superstar to sign with the Lakers and watching closely how LA proceeds with the Leonard talks. Paul George, once considered a lock to sign with the Lakers, is now reportedly expected to remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
