Report: Winners' share of All-Star Game upped to $100K

There will be added incentive on the line in an effort to improve the level of competition at the NBA All-Star Game, according to a report.

Chris Haynes of ESPN reported each player on the winning team of the game will earn $100,000 -- an increase of $50,000 from previous years -- with the players on the losing squad will receive $25,000.

The two teams will also play for a local charity.

The NBA changed the format of the All-Star Game this season, moving from its traditional format of Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference.

The top vote-getters in each conference -- LeBronJames of Cleveland and StephenCurry of Golden State -- were named captains and held a draft to choose sides, playground style, from the pool of players named All-Stars.

The hope is the new format, combined with the additional financial incentive, will boost the competitive level of the game, which has noticeably waned in recent seasons.

All-Star Weekend will be held Feb. 16-18 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, with the All-Star Game being played Feb. 18.
