Celtics still intend to pursue trade for Pelicans star Davis

Following a very public trade demand in January, the Anthony Davis saga will continue on into the offseason, and the Boston Celtics remain determined in their pursuit.

Reiterating this was an Amico Hoops source, who said Wednesday that the Celtics are still very interested in Davis. New Orleans Pelicans head of basketball operations David Griffin met with Davis earlier this month but has reportedly begun taking trade offers on the star big man.

The news that the Celtics are still very interested in trading for the six-time All-Star might not come across as a surprise. However, they would be taking quite a gamble by acquiring him.

Davis has just one year left on his contract and reportedly would prefer to be sent to other destinations, such as the Los Angeles Lakers. In addition, his father, Anthony Davis Sr., told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne in February that he would not want his son to play for Celtics, citing the supposed treatment of former Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas. 

Boston's interest also comes at the forefront of Kyrie Irving’s impending free agency, with plenty of those around the league questioning his return. Instead, Irving has mostly been linked to the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets and even the Lakers.

The NBA Draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 20 at Barclays Center, and free agency will begin at the new time of 6 p.m. on June 30.
