Washington Wizards center Dwight Howard is undergoing surgery to relieve pain from a gluteal injury and is expected to miss two-to-three months, according to a report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Howard, 32, has played in just nine games this season after signing with the Wizards in free agency. He is averaging 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds.
The decision for surgery was made after Howard saw a specialist, Haynes reported. There is a chance Howard could return sooner.
The Wizards (8-13 through Thursday) have failed to live up to expectations, resulting in speculation about the front office and trade rumors.
