Bird is the word: Cavs get Hawks in Round 2

Sam Amico

Finally, the Cavaliers can focus on someone other than themselves.

That's because the Cavs found out their opponent for the Eastern Conference semifinals Thursday night -- when the visting Hawks eliminated the Celtics with a 104-92 win in Game 6 of their series.

The Hawks entered the playoffs as the fourth seed and travel to Cleveland for Game 1 on Monday. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, also at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Cavs swept the Hawks in last year's conference finals (despite Atlanta owning home-court advantage) and won all three regular-season meetings this year.

Last season's Hawks won 60 games, but this year's version has failed to match that level of success. This season's Hawks can be brilliant behind the likes of Paul Millsap, Al Horford, Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver. Yet other times, the Hawks are flat and inconsistent.

Meanwhile, the Cavs played perhaps their best basketball of the season in sweeping the Pistons in the first round. Kyrie Irving led the way with 27.5 points per game.
