After the Los Angeles Lakers won the 2020 NBA Championship, they signed LA Clippers 6th Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell, and Toronto Raptors champion Marc Gasol. The Lakers made these moves instead of bringing back Dwight Howard, which is a decision the NBA legend recently slammed on an episode of the "My Expert Opinion" show.

"Why didn't the Lakers just bring us back? We just won a championship," Howard said. "Why would they go away from it? What did they say? We want to get better at the center position, so they went and got Marc Gasol and Montrezl Harrell. That was their way of saying, 'We got younger and better at the [center] position.' In my mind, I'm like, 'We just won a championship, what's better than that?"'

The Lakers signing Harrell was always a questionable move, because while he was the reigning 6th Man of the Year, his defensive struggles were a big reason why the Clippers blew a 3-1 lead that postseason. For a team that won a championship largely because of their defensive dominance, adding Harrell didn't seem to align with their current roster construction.

Confused why the Lakers would go away from what won them a championship, Howard was honest when speaking about the moves LA made that summer. While it's hard to say if the Lakers would have been able to repeat had they brought back the same team, their moves at the center position certainly didn't help much.
