In what is expected to be Kyrie Irving's Dallas Mavericks debut, he will be without his new running mate Luka Doncic, as the superstar guard has been ruled out of Wednesday night's matchup with the LA Clippers. Doncic is dealing with a foot contusion that has sidelined him for the last two games.

A notorious Clippers killer, Doncic has some of his best career games vs. LA, many of which came in the postseason. It is unfortunate that fans will not get to see these two teams face off at full strength, as there is a real chance they meet at some point in the playoffs.

The NBA world is eagerly awaiting the debut or Irving and Doncic as teammates, with some skeptical about the fit, and others optimistic that the two will be a nightmare for opposing defenses. Their first game together will unfortunately not come on Wednesday vs. the Clippers, but it is hopefully not too far down the line.

The Mavericks made a big swing to bring in Irving, hoping that his star power alongside Luka Doncic can elevate them to championship contender status. That much remains to be seen, but the Mavericks had to swing big. Doncic has proven himself to be one of the league's top players, and getting him an All-Star teammate was something the Mavericks felt they could not pass up.
