Ty Lue Reveals Reason for Unexpected Lineup Change vs Suns

The Clippers changed their lineup for Game 4 against the Phoenix Suns.

Clippers head coach Ty Lue shocked the NBA world in Game 4 against the Phoenix Suns when he inserted Marcus Morris in the starting lineup over Nicolas Batum.

Some expected that the Clippers would make a lineup change since Nicolas Batum was struggling, but very few expected Marcus Morris to replace him. When asked at the end of Game 4, Ty Lue gave a very simple explanation of "I just decided to do it."

Two days later, Ty Lue gave a much more thorough explanation of his lineup change during practice.

"First of all he’s played good against Phoenix in general, but he’s 5th all-time amongst guys who’ve taken at least 100 shots in the playoffs in three-point field goal percentage," Lue said. "If they put small guys like Booker or CP on him, he can post at times."

Marcus Morris didn't perform how Ty Lue hoped he would in Game 4, putting up 3/13 FGs and 1/8 from deep. In 45 minutes throughout the playoffs, Marcus Morris has shot 28% from the field, 18% from three, and only grabbed 7 rebounds. Many were hoping Ty would try experimenting with Terance Mann or Robert Covington in the starting lineup, but he went with the player he's most familiar with.

The Clippers are now in elimination mode. There's only one game left to experiment with, and as it stands, their current gambles have not paid off at all.
