Defensive Player of the Year Reveals Shocking Method of Studying Defense

Jaren Jackson Jr. has a very surprising way of studying defense.

When it comes to defense, very few players in the NBA do it better than Jaren Jackson Jr. Jackson is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, but he has a very surprising way of studying defense.

In an interview with Paul George on the Podcast P show, Jackson revealed that he actually gets his defensive timing from NBA2k.

"I feel like I get my timing from 2k, and I'm being serious," Jackson said. "They get by you in 2k, you figure out the timing of when you gonna block shots."

Although Jackson's statement sounds very farfetched, he gave a very detailed answer about how he actually studies defensive timing. For him, the biggest thing is very about defensive instincts.

"It's really all about, it's a lot of instincts," Jackson said. "You can't be afraid. Especially, I mean, I've had my string of foul trouble, like just goin' for everything. I think when I was like first in the league I was swiping more hard, like swiping a lot more, not picking my spots as well. You know I started picking my spots better. I would just wall up and at the end I would find an opportunity to block a shot, rather than dudes running at me and I'm just trying to wind up - it doesn't work like that. It's really all about being patient, and wait until the last moment."

Video games have certainly influenced NBA players and the world itself far more than they did in the past, but to hear a Defensive Player of the Year openly mention that he uses video games to improve defense is a truly amazing statement.
