Grizzlies Give Major Update on Ja Morant's Return From Suspension
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant becomes eligible to return from his eight-game gun video suspension against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday; however, head coach Taylor Jenkins said Morant will likely not play in that game.
Jenkins addressed the media before Saturday night's game vs. the Golden State Warriors, and said, "Good chance [Morant is] probably out for the Monday game, because that's gonna be his first day back with the team... It's an ongoing dialogue. We'll see when he gets back in the team environment on Monday, but our anticipation is that he's at least out for Monday, then we'll cross the bridge on Wednesday when we get a little bit closer."
This was a major update from Jenkins, as it essentially closed the door on Morant making his return vs. the Mavericks on Monday. Jenkins also seemed to suggest that Wednesday's game vs. the Rockets is also still in question, as the team still needs to get Morant back in the mix before evaluating when he can return to game action.
Even if Morant is not able to play for the first couple games he is eligible for, just having him back around the team should be a positive thing for the Grizzlies. Removing the weight of his absence is something that should really ease so much of the tension that has been surrounding this team over the last few weeks.
