Atlanta Hawks at San Antonio Spurs Preview
Preview
After the San Antonio Spurs traded Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks, San Antonio was expected to tank while Atlanta became a contender. The first part of the calculus held true, but Atlanta has remained average after the blockbuster trade.
Sunday evening's game will mark the first time Murray has returned to San Antonio since the trade. Atlanta sits eighth in the Eastern Conference standings with a 35-35 record, while San Antonio has the worst record in the Western Conference at 18-52.
Atlanta defeated San Antonio at home last month and cannot afford to let a winnable game slip by them this late in the season. The Play-In Tournament is unavoidable at this point, but seeding matters.
Meanwhile, San Antonio is almost locked in for a bottom-four record. So, they wouldn't mind playing spoiler before they complete their rebuilding season. There is never a shortage of drama in the NBA, and today should be no different.
Injury Report
San Antonio's injury report lists Zach Collins (bicep contusion) and Doug McDermott (hip contusion) as questionable. Keita Bates-Diop (Achilles soreness) is doubtful. Lastly, Jeremy Sochan (knee soreness) and Devonte’ Graham (quad tendon soreness) are out.
Atlanta's injury report lists Trae Young (right knee contusion) and Jalen Johnson (left hamstring tightness) as questionable.
