After wrapping up the preseason on Thursday, Vince Carter and Trae Young spoke to assembled members of the media Saturday afternoon at the Hawks' practice facility in Atlanta. Both gave their thoughts on how the team performed in the preseason and their expectations for the team entering the 2019-20 season.

Carter went into depth on the areas in which the Hawks must improve and what he's noticed from rookies Cam Reddish and De'Andre Hunter. "Sometimes it's kind of a wowing factor for our young guys," Carter said. "We have enough experienced guys to bring them along and hopefully just prepare them. There's nothing like going through it yourself. ... It's just how fast can we get prepared?"

Young discussed his own play in the preseason, including turnovers, floaters, and the overall flow of the team's offense. When asked whether he expects teams to defend him differently in his second year, Young expressed confidence against any scheme or counter opponents could throw him. "Last year, late in the year, I got pretty much every look," Young said. "It's preseason too, so it's just about continuing to get more reps up."

Young also says the team's adjustment and acclimation process has been faster this year given how many new faces have joined the Hawks. "Whenever you've got as many new guys as we did we definitely have to speed up the process," Young said. "You have to put a lot more time into getting the plays down, getting the defensive sets down. It takes a lot more time and you have to put a lot more emphasis on those."
