Jimmy Butler Improves in All Facets in One Year With Miami Heat
When Jimmy Butler signed with the Miami Heat last spring, there were questions if he was a max player.
Some called him an overpaid second superstar. After his performance in the NBA Finals, few would argue he wasn't worthy of a big contract. Butler showcased his two-way skills in the Heat's 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Afterward, he credited his decision to join the Miami organization. Jimmy Butler says he's improved in every aspect in his first season under the leadership of team president Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra.
"I think that I've grew in every aspect of the game, so I can smile about that," Butler said after the Heat were eliminated in Game 6.
The experience also provided opportunity to help develop young players like rookies Tyler Herro and Kendrick Nunn. Butler gained a new respect for both after finding out how hard they worked to become better players. Herro became the youngest player to start in a Finals game while Nunn finished second to Ja Morant in the Rookie of the Year voting.
"More than anything, I've learned that ... I'm going to always believe in my guys," Butler said. "The one thing that I learned more than anything is how fun it is to play with these guys. It really was fun watching all my young fellas grow and having vets come in and showcase what they can still do and teach me so much. It was a great time."
