Trade Rumor Links Jazz to Veteran Heat Center

With the trade deadline looming, will the Utah Jazz be buyers or sellers?

Utah Jazz fans can expect the rumors to keep coming at a rapid pace heading into the February 9 trade deadline. The latest one comes from Miami Heat insider Ira Winderman in regard to veteran center Dewayne Dedmon.

“The Utah Jazz or Oklahoma City Thunder are possible landing spots in a Dedmon selloff,” Winderman wrote.

Dedmon is averaging 5.7 ppg in only 11 minutes per contest and currently has worked his way out of the Heat rotation. The 10-year journeyman has only participated in four games since January 1.

The Jazz could use some front-court help if Kelly Olynyk and Jarred Vanderbilt are moved before the deadline. Other than that, Dedmon doesn’t hold much value with guaranteed money ($4.3 million) owed that runs through the year 2024.

However, Dedmon could be a part of something bigger. The Jazz could be brought in as the third team to help facilitate an exchange involving Russell Westbrook

With the recent trade of Kyrie Irving now complete, expect the Westbrook domino to fall next. Utah has contracts on the books of all different sizes to help get something done.

Malik Beasley, Olynyk, and Vanderbilt are the most likely players to be suiting up for another franchise next week. Dark horse trade candidates would include Jordan Clarkson and Mike Conley.

Also, does the news that Steph Curry will miss “multiple weeks” with a leg injury change the landscape of potential trades? It’s not out of the question, with a loaded 2023 draft class, that the Golden State Warriors reload for next year.

There are many moving parts with the NBA trade deadline just around the corner. Jazz fans should expect the current roster to be reshuffled in the upcoming days.
