BREAKING: Canada Wildfire Air Issues Postpones Liberty's Game vs. Lynx

The New York Liberty will not tip off against the Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday due to air quality issues in the New York City area.

The WNBA has announced that Wednesday's New York Liberty game against the Minnesota Lynx at Barclays Center has been postponed due to air quality issues caused by smoke drifting from wildfires in Canada. A makeup date will be determined at a later time.

A statement from the Liberty indicated that "tickets will automatically be valid for the new date and that "no additional action is required by ticket holders." In addition to the Liberty's postponed game, an MLB baseball game between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox was also called off, with a doubleheader instead scheduled to start Thursday late afternoon.

The New York City tri-state area has been blanketed by the wildfire haze for the past two days, blurring the famed NYC skyline. Air Quality Indexes in New York, New Jersey, and New England have skyrocketed, creating hazardous environments. As of press time, the World Air Quality Index declared NYC's air the most polluted on Earth with an AQI of 332 on Wednesday, nearly doubling the 170 in Dubai.

With this interruption in the schedule, the Liberty (4-2) will return to action on Friday night on the road against the Atlanta Dream (7:30 p.m. ET, Ion). Their next home game is a nationally televised tilt against the Dallas Wings on Sunday.
