Los Angeles Lakers starting point guard D'Angelo Russell proved a critical part of LA's surprising win against the visiting Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. D-Lo scored 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor (3-of-6 from deep) and six assists.

In speaking with reporters afterwards, he reflected on the role the Crypto.com Arena home crowd's enthusiasm played in his game and in the team's effort.

"I've been in here in the past, I remember... Kobe and guys like that controlling that environment... The fans can't wait to cheer for it," Russell said. "It helps our team."

When asked about playing alongside newly-promoted starting shooting guard Austin Reaves, Russell was diplomatic. Reaves' elevation meant that Malik Beasley had been demoted. Russell and Beasley were previously teammates on the Minnesota Timberwolves for two-and-a-half seasons.

"I think just having guards out there that are skilled, it makes the game easier for everybody so, around the league, it's a guard-heavy league, so, trying to be out there and match it up against guys that can create and can score the ball is a positive to have as a coach so, I thought it was successful tonight for sure," Russell offered.

LA is currently in the midst of an absolutely critical game against a Western Conference play-in competitor with an identical record, the Oklahoma City Thunder, at Crypto.com Arena without Russell. D-Lo has been ruled day-to-day moving forward as he deals with a sore right hip, but he's out for tonight.
