Los Angeles Lakers legend Pau Gasol received the ultimate honor earlier this week, getting his jersey retired that will forever hang in the rafters.

The time leading up to the ceremony was all about Gasol and what he brought to LA, not only on the court but off the court.

Lakers insider and OC Register columnist Kyle Goon asked Lakers head coach Darvin Ham about the Lakers legend and mentioned he couldn't compete with Gasol on the court.

Ham played in the NBA, was signed by the Denver Nuggets as a free agent in 1996, and played until 2005. He was a part of six different teams and played in 417 games averaging 2.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists while shooting 51.8/23.0/49.4. Ham also was a member of the 2004 Detroit Pistons, who beat Los Angeles in five games to become NBA champions.

It's safe to say Ham wasn't a great NBA player, but he has proven himself as a coach with the purple and gold and his other ventures.

Compared to Gasol, who played in 20 seasons and averaged 17.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, became a four-time All-Star, four-time All-NBA, rookie of the year, and a two-time champion. Pau craved out an incredible career for himself, and Ham plans to do the same in the coaching realm.

The 49-year-old coach is proving himself and will look to lead the new-look Lakers into the playoffs and beyond.
