Los Angeles Lakers All-Star small forward LeBron James rocked the basketball world earlier this week when he floated the possibility that he might actually call it a career this summer.

Assuming that was just said after a grueling run to the Western Conference Finals, and James wasn't actually serious, just how much longer will he actually play beyond his 20th season?

Shams Charania of The Athletic and FanDuel TV weighed in recently with a (presumably well-informed) estimate:

“There’s certainly an expectation that he’s gonna continue playing, he’s got two years left on his Lakers deal," Charania said. "It would be a true surprise if he really did actually retire”

James, 38, certainly has nothing left to prove if he really does want to step away from the game for good. Across his 20 pro seasons to date, he has appeared in 10 NBA Finals, winning four titles with three different teams. He has also been named the league's MVP four times, and is generally acknowledged as one of the five best players in the history of the game.
