From Dirk to Diva?

Soooo, just how much DIVA is KP compared to Dirk? Another KP, Kendrick Perkins appears to be trying to follow Charles Barkley's footsteps looking for controversy and taking shots at current players freely but his remarks about Zinger being a "Diva to the max" are interesting.

I don't know how much of Diva KP might be versus how much is just a young guy trying to grow up in the spotlight of a NY Knicks team that has been a mess of franchise.
From a personality standpoint, he doesn't appear to be in the Dirk mold, since Dirk is the absolute opposite of a DIVA. Will Kristaps personality evolve in a positive way now that he's out of NY mess and in the CORE of Dallas Basketball?

Im not sure Perk knows enough to know that KP is a 'diva.' And I'm not sure we know enough about him to insist that it's not so, you know?

Nah hes a diva. He forced his way out of ny because they wouldnt give his brother the keys to the city. And because he knew he had a rape case pending

As soon as he comes to dallas the first thing carlisle does is bend over backwards to tell the world that his brother is a part of their team. Gotta pamper the baby

Hornacek told us all that he was a bitch years ago remember?

Right, Dallas is just getting to know KP for ourselves. There's stories from his time in NYC and the general news with some unproven 'stuff' shall we say but nothing that would say we know this to be true or not or how much an issue it might be.

The fact that Dirk has been such an all time model if an Anti-Diva now makes it even more interesting to see what both KP and Luka establish going forward as the stars of Mavericks.

Some people grow up and out of their juvenile tendencies. Sometimes it takes a big event to make it happen.

If he is indeed a diva, hopefully he’s grown up and out of his juvenile tendencies or this big event of changing teams has done the trick. If not, hopefully we have the staff to deal with it appropriately.

Sometimes, when people are in an unhealthy environment, with leadership that either is "diva-ish" or weak leadership that allows it...sometimes, not all the time...but sometimes, the diva comes out. Other times, when you come into a good culture with a stable coach and united front office that doesn't put up with that, it goes away...or the player will go away.

Luka's not a diva...our long time players are not divas. The divas we've had have felt so uncomfortable that they have forced their way out or just been traded.

If KP is a diva and there's no changing that, he's not going to stay.

My two-part take on this is:

  1. I wouldn’t put too much stock into what Kendrick Perkins has to say about KP. He’s quickly become of those tv guys that screams about stuff just to scream. It’s all for show.
  2. That said, KP does seem to have a little bit of diva to him, but shoot, what superstar in the league doesn’t these days? I don’t think we should make the mistake of trying to compare him to Dirk, because we’ll end up being disappointed if we do that. There will never be another Dirk.
