Wizards SG Bradley Beal Under Police Investigation For Battering Heckler

Could the NBA punish Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal further if found responsible for alleged battery in a now-ongoing police investigation?

Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal is in the news for the wrong reasons, as a heated exchange between he and a fan have led police to investigate the former All-Star for alleged battery.

The news broke on Twitter earlier today, including an inside in to what was said between both parties:

The confrontation appears to have been over a fan's bet that included Beal in his wager. This would not be the first time that tensions have brewed in regards to betting culture, as irked players have voiced their displeasure at fans' attitudes.

Dallas Mavericks All-Star Kyrie Irving went on a tirade weeks ago, where he admonished fans for putting such an onus on betting parlays. Beal is just the latest player to display overt vexation over this outlandish behavior.

If found culpable, Beal could face further repercussions from the league. This season has seen notable suspensions and disciplinary actions taken against star players such as Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant and Irving for a myriad of reasons. Putting hands on a fan may turn the heat up on Beal in what will be looked at as damaging to the league's image.

Beal has been tied to trade rumors with the Mavericks for several seasons now. However, his otherworldly scoring ability, while nothing but a benefit to any team's offense, would not remedy the major defensive woes that Dallas has.

In any unprecedented scenario that would send Beal to the Mavericks, he would receive solace as while betting has permeated the sports world, it remains illegal in the state of Texas. Nonetheless, the Wizards are 33-42 as the No. 11 seed in the Eastern Conference and are three games back from the tenth and final play-in seed with only seven games remaining in the regular season.
