Speaking with WFAN in New York on Wednesday ahead of the Brooklyn Nets home opener, Sean Marks offered his thoughts on Kevin Durant's injury and hinted the Nets need to do take caution with the injured future Hall of Famer.

"We're going to have to protect him from himself," noted Marks.

Brooklyn understands the deep competitive spirit within Durant and doesn't want anything to jeopardize his long-term health. Brookyln's training staff is highly regarded in league circles and from everything the Nets have been saying, there is no timetable for Durant's return and a decision for him to be back on the court will be dictated by a consensus of opinions between the medical staff, Durant, the front office and coaches.

Brooklyn made an investment in the future by signing him to a 4-year, $164 million deal. That's not chump change by any stretch of the imagination and while the team has desires of being a championship contending team, they're unwilling to move up his timeframe to create any problems for years two, three, and four of his contract.

As Nets fans gear up for the 2019-2020 season, Marks and company are doing everything in their power to protect Durant from rushing back to the court before his body is fully healed.
