Knicks' J.R. Smith ejected for flagrant foul to Warriors' Harrison Barnes
By Ben Golliver
With 6:50 remaining in the third quarter and the Warriors leading 64-40, Smith brought both of his arms down across Barnes' upper body as he attempted to prevent a driving shot attempt. Smith appeared to make contact with Barnes' face and left arm during the follow through.
The flagrant foul 2 designation applies to fouls that are deemed both “unnecessary and excessive.” All flagrant fouls are reviewed by the NBA and are subject to possible discipline, including a fine and/or suspension.
Smith had committed only one previous flagrant foul this season, when he sent Suns guard Goran Dragic crashing to the floor in December, and he will likely avoid further sanctions on this play. He departed with nine points (on 3-for-11 shooting) and one assist in 21 minutes.
Golden State improved to 36-29 with the win; New York dropped to 38-23 with the loss.Video via YouTube user nba dailyhighlights | Hat tip: ProBasketballTalk
