Video: Lance Stephenson throws mid-air, behind-the-back pass for the assist
Ball reversals aren't supposed to be this spectacular, even if Pacers coach Frank Vogel will probably breathe a sigh of relief when he watches this one on tape.
With a little more than eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and the Pacers up 77-57, Paul George picked up his dribble in the right corner with two Wizards defenders closing in. Stephenson came across the court from the left angle to receive the pass as John Wall rotated over to defend the catch. Rather than coming down and attacking off the dribble, Stephenson caught the ball and whistled a pass with his right hand to Watson, who was spotting up in the left corner wide open.
The curving pass was a foot or two to Watson's right but it didn't matter, as the veteran point guard had plenty of time before a Washington defender would be able to rotate back towards him. Watson simply reached over, corralled the pass, and calmly set his feet before sinking the three-pointer.
This grandiose offering stands as a nice complement to Warriors forward Andre Iguodala, who three a mid-air, behind-the-back pass of his own from the left corner into the paint earlier this month. Pacers blog 8 Points, 9 Seconds notes that this was just one of a number of highlight dimes from Stephenson on the night.
Stephenson finished with seven points (on 3-for-7 shooting), 11 rebounds and 10 assists in 37 minutes. George had a team-high 23 points (on 10-for-19 shooting), four rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Marcin Gortat led the Wizards with 17 points (on 6-for-12 shooting) and 10 rebounds in a losing effort.
Indiana improved its league-best record to 15-1 with the win. Washington dropped to 7-9 with the loss.Video via YouTube user NBAshowtimeHD7 | Hat tip: 8 Points, 9 Seconds
