Spurs PG Devonte' Graham 'Wants to Stay' in San Antonio

San Antonio Spurs guard Devonte' Graham posted 13 points and four assists in 20 appearances for the Alamo last season.

San Antonio Spurs guard Devonte' Graham has proven his ability to adapt over his NBA tenure.

Over his five-year career, the 28-year-old has played for three different teams, with each of his roles being different from the other.

"In year two I started off as a backup," Graham said. "That turned into a starting role, me being the main ball handler averaging 18 [points] and ... having a breakout season. In year three, [the Hornets] drafted LaMelo Ball and [my role went] back to coming off the bench."

But since being traded from the New Orleans Pelicans in February for Josh Richardson and four future second-round draft picks, Graham has accepted whatever role is needed - as long as it's in a Spurs uniform.

"This is my third team," Graham said via KENS5. "I want to stay. It's a great city to be in. The fans have been great. We have a chance to do something special, so just growing, man."

Now with San Antonio on the brink of adding generational talent Victor Wembanyama, alongside young pieces in Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell and Tre Jones, Graham has the opportunity to mentor a team that finished last season 22-60.

And despite suiting up in just 20 games for San Antonio last season - averaging 13 points and four assists over that span - Graham had glowing reviews for head coach Gregg Popovich in his limited sample size.

"Nothing but great things to say about Coach Popovich," Graham said. "Coaches you hard, stays on you, holds you accountable. And I think for a young team, that's a good thing."

Graham hopes that he can carve out a role as he approaches his first full season with the Spurs in 2023-24.
