Gameday: Can Suns Carry Momentum vs. Pistons?

The Phoenix Suns were able to upset the Boston Celtics on Friday night. Will their second leg of a back-to-back prove to be any different against the Detroit Pistons?

Who: Phoenix Suns at Detroit Pistons

Where: Little Caesers Arena, Detroit, MI
Spread via SI Sportsbook: Suns -4.5

The Phoenix Suns weren't supposed to win last night.

The Boston Celtics paraded themselves as the No. 1 team in the East, fairly healthy and ready to utilize their homecourt advantage against a Suns team without Devin Booker and Cam Johnson.

Yet the Suns eventually emerged as 106-94 winners over one of the top teams in the league, and they hope to carry momentum for a second night of a back-to-back when the Detroit Pistons play host to them later tonight.

The 14-39 Pistons have struggled this season, as they've won just two of their last eight. They're 23 games back from Boston as the bottom team in the East.

Detroit is led by Bojan Bogdanovic's 21.4 ppg after young star Cade Cunningham's left tibial stress fracture has only let him play 12 games thus far.

The Pistons are bad, yet their young core of Jaden Ivey, Saddiq Bey and Jalen Duren among others gives hope that they'll eventually grow into a playoff team down the road, a familiar story for those who watched the early days of Booker's career.

The Suns hope their top-five defense in points allowed will help suffocate the Pistons without one of their best players in Cunningham. There's hope that Johnson (who was out due to knee management) can play tonight, too.

The return of Booker isn't likely to come until after Saturday, as ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports he could be back as soon as Tuesday vs. Brooklyn.

We'll see if Mikal Bridges - who has led the team in scoring the last three games - can keep pushing Phoenix forward in the win column.
