Monty Williams Says Suns Need Rest After Road Trip Struggles

The Phoenix Suns are at the tail end of their four-game road trip, and rest couldn't come soon enough.

The Phoenix Suns are ready to return home.

Their four-game road trip has not been kind to them thus far, and their play has shown as a result. They've won just one-of-three games thus far, with one more road game in Miami on Monday before returning home.

Rest has been hard to come by, and head coach Monty Williams touched on that following Friday's loss to the Orlando Magic.

“I think we obviously need to get some rest. This trip has been a weird trip for our guys," said Williams.

"Traveling east kind of settled when we went to Minnesota. Yesterday was a weird day just traveling all day with the hurricane. It just became try not to acknowledge but we all kind of felt it. We got in the gym this morning to get us moving around but going to Miami would be a great win for us to go down there and re-establish the kind of basketball that’s typical and we’re known for playing.”

Phoenix first loss of their stay away from the Footprint Center came to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, where the team lost Chris Paul to a right heel injury early in the second quarter.

Williams felt the team's energy was already down after that:

"I think we could’ve put anybody out there tonight. We just didn’t have our normal juice. It was a bit of a toilet flusher to me ... I just didn’t think we had anything close to what we would call average as far as energy, ball movement and 50-50 pursuit,"

A Wednesday win over Minnesota would put spirits back into place before another disappointing outing on Friday evening. The Suns had to slightly alter their travel plans due to Hurricane Nicole, instead flying to Tampa and using a charter bus to travel 90 miles to Orlando according to Arizona Republic's Duane Rankin

The Suns will have two days of rest before competing against the Miami Heat on Monday. Phoenix will then return home to face the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.
