Suns Guard Devin Booker Likely to Become Eligible for Huge Supermax Extension

Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker has already seen a considerable amount of cash come his way after emerging as one of the best young players in the NBA.
After being selected as a lottery pick, Booker eventually worked his way to a five-year, $158 million extension in the summer of 2018.
"I am humbled & honored to commit to the Suns organization long term. I loved calling Phoenix home the last 3 seasons as this team & community are special to me. Thank you to the Suns for drafting me and believing in me. I look forward to the future & pursuing a title as a Sun," Booker said in a tweet following the news.
Years later, Booker is on the verge of another upgrade for his bank account.
Should Booker see his name on an All-NBA team after another strong season with the Suns, he will be eligible for a four-year, $211 million supermax extension this summer.
Booker, who finished fourth in the league's MVP voting, is extremely likely to be eligible for the extension which would begin at the beginning of the 2024-25 season when he is 28-years-old.
According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, Booker's next six years of salary would look like the following:
2022-23 = $33.8 million
2023-24 = $36.0 million
2024-25 = $47.1 million
2025-26 = $50.9 million
2026-27 = $54.7 million
2027-28 = $58.5 million
ESPN's Bobby Marks believes Booker is worth the money.
"The supermax tends to come with a warning sign, because often that player is rewarded from the prior years and not his future production. However, considering Booker is coming off his most complete season and will only be 28 at the time the extension kick in, the cost is justified," said Marks before expanding into the numbers.
"Since the All-Star break, Booker was one of three players to average 30 points while shooting 50% from the field and 40% on 3-pointers, per ESPN Stats & Information research. The other players were Kevin Durant and Jayson Tatum. He is also one of three players to average at least 25 points in each of the past four seasons, joining Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James. Defensively, he averaged a career-high 1.1 steals and held opponents to a career-best 41.9% as the closest defender (according to Second Spectrum tracking) and contested 88.4% of shots faced as the closest defender for the first time in his career.Booker's deal, should the Suns pick up the cost, would be the largest in franchise history."
Booker's extension would be the largest in Suns franchise history. Despite being a three-time All-Star and carrying All-Rookie First-Team honors, this year would be Booker's first time as an All-NBA selection.
