Lakers, LeBron Hold 'Productive' Talks per Reports

LeBron James is now eligible for a contract extension. Agent Rich Paul said talks were productive when he spoke with ESPN.

The Phoenix Suns have had their own worries and checklists this summer, let alone worrying about what is going on with the Los Angeles Lakers

Despite sweeping the Lakers last season, the Suns would still be smart in doing their due diligence for a team that could possibly land Kyrie Irving and once again build themselves as a potential roadblock for Phoenix's title hopes.

That even extends to forward LeBron James, who today became eligible for two-year, $97.1 million extension with Los Angeles. When his current deal is up, James will be 38-years-old.

According to ESPN, agent Rich Paul met with Lakers brass today and said talks were "productive" and the two sides will continue to engage with each other.

James has long talked about wanting to play alongside his son Bronny, as he wouldn't become eligible for the NBA Draft until 2024.

Dave McMenamin also pointed out the maximum length of a contract for a player 38 or older can sign is two years, according to the league's collective bargaining agreement.

"It is possible James could seek a one-year extension, worth $47 million for the 2023-24 season, with an additional year with a player option for 2024-25," he said.

James has long been a thorn in the side for many teams, and although he still looks as if he could play more strong years of basketball, his future right now appears nothing short of up in the air.

Will the Suns continue to deal with him in Los Angeles? Will the Lakers reload and piece together a squad that can match Phoenix?

Only time will tell for the future.
