Draymond Green Reveals How Russell Westbrook Adjusted to Warriors Defense

Russell Westbrook made the Warriors pay for not defending him.

Russell Westbrook didn't have a tremendous shooting game against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, but he certainly made them pay for sagging off of him defensively.

While Westbrook shot 6/16 from the field, he filled up the stat sheet in a variety of ways: 15 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 0 turnovers. Westbrook even put up 4 offensive rebounds, which led to multiple second-chance points for the Clippers. When the Warriors dared Westbrook to shoot threes, he obliged and went 2/5 from the deep.

Draymond Green was asked how Westbrook improved from the last time the Clippers and Warriors met, and Green gave an overly simple answer.

“He made some shots he missed," Green said. "I thought he did a good job of not solely standing all the time, but he made some shots that he missed last time."

The last time that Westbrook faced off against the Warriors, he put up: 8 points, 6 assists, 0 rebounds, and 4 turnovers on 3/12 shooting. To say that Westbrook simply made more shots is a huge oversimplification by Draymond and a big reason why they lost to the Clippers. Westbrook used the extra space the Warriors gave him defensively to crash the boards and make the team pay with offensive rebounds. It's that level of attention to detail that has caused the Warriors to lose games on the road.
