Steve Kerr Talks Frustration With Gary Payton II Trade

The Warriors needed immediate help, but didn't get it.

When the Golden State Warriors made the trade for Gary Payton II at the trade deadline, they were hoping to get immediate help. Instead, they have no idea when Gary Payton II is actually playing.

Steve Kerr was on 95.7 The Game where he opened up about the frustrations the Warriors have experienced with the infamous trade.

“We needed immediate help, we needed a boost at the deadline and that was one of the reasons for the deal,” Kerr said. “Finding out he was gonna be out for a while was frustrating. But that’s the way it goes. That’s what it is. We gotta find a way to keep moving forward and hopefully get him back at the end of the year."

The Golden State Warriors are expected the re-evaluate Payton in a month, but that doesn't change the fact that they need help now. The team already doesn't have Steph Curry and is currently 29-29 heading into the All-Star break. If there was a team that really needs to be calculated in how they use the buyout market, it's the Golden State Warriors. Players will want to come and play with Steph Curry and compete for a championship, but the Warriors have to be smart about it.

The biggest thing the Warriors need to do is hang on. Inevitably, help will come. However, the team just needs to hang on until they do.
