Chris Kluwe's lawsuit against Vikings delayed, talks planned

The lawyer for former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe said that Kluwe won't be filing a lawsuit against the Vikings on Wednesday as intended, and the two sides plan to resume talks about a possible settlement, reports the St. PaulPioneer Press.  

Kluwe and lawyer Clayton Halunen were set to file suit for more than $10 million against the team and special teams coach Mike Priefer, but after speaking to Vikings lawyer Joe Anthony, the sides agreed to recommend that their clients continue discussions first. 

Halunen told the Pioneer Press that he expects talks to go on for "the next couple of weeks" to see if a settlement can be reached. A deadline on the discussions has not been set.

Kluwe has accused Minnesota of wrongful termination, writing in a first-person article for Deadspin that he believes he was released because of his activism in support of gay marriage. He's also accused Priefer of making homophobic remarks while he was with the team. Priefer was recently suspended for three games after a team investigation found he made one homophobic remark. The investigation also determined that Kluwe was released just for football reasons.

Kluwe tweeted that he intends to donate any money won in the case to an LGBTQ charity.

Earlier in the week, Kluwe spoke with SI Now about the lawsuit, and apologized for a joke he reportedly made about Penn State and Jerry Sandusky while with the team.
