Report: Kaepernick unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was for racial slur
The unsportsmanlike conduct penalty drawn by 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick during San Francisco's loss last Sunday to the Chicago Bears was for using a racial slur, according to a Fox Sports report cited by the San Jose Mercury News.

Kaepernick threw three interceptions in Chicago's 28-20 upset of the 49ers last week, the first regular season game played at Levi's Stadium. After his third, he exchanged words with Bears defensive end Lamarr Houston and received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Sideline video captured by KPIX-TV "appears to show that Kaepernick said something, although no audio could be heard," according to the Mercury News.

Kaepernick told the Mercury News' Tim Kawakami last week he did not say anything to Houston and that he did not use a slur. Referee Carl Cheffers attributed the penalty only to inappropriate language.
The 49ers quarterback is appealing his $11,025 fine for the penalty.
