Australian rugby player Jarryd Hayne has left his team, the Parramatta Eels, and is moving to America to pursue an NFL career, he announced Tuesday

Hayne met with the Seattle Seahawks in September, according to the Daily Telegraph. Hayne himself also tweeted about a trip to Seattle last month.

The 26-year-old was named the National Rugby League Player of the Year in both 2009 and 2014. He is listed at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds.

The Telegraph reports that Hayne met Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush when Bush visited Australia in June. Bush reportedly watched film of Hayne playing rugby and said Hayne "looks like an NFL running back" and "like he could come play with us tomorrow."

Hayne announced the news with a letter to the Parramatta fans. From the letter

It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the NFL, and at my age, this is my one and only chance at having a crack at playing there.

I’m excited about the potential opportunities that lie ahead. I’ve known the deadline has been looming for me to make this call, and I believe the right time is now.
