The Giants have placed five players on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday. Mathias Kiwanuka, Geoff Schwartz, Robert Ayers, Adam Snyder and Terrell Manning are all out for the rest of the season.

Ayers' injury is to a pectoral muscle. Kiwanuka and Snyder have ankle injuries, while Schwartz and Manning  injured their ankles.

Kiwanuka and Ayers were listed as the Giants' first- and second-string left defensive ends.

Schwartz signed a four-year contract as a free agent in March and started the season on injured reserve-recall with a toe injury. He played in only two games this season.

Manning was signed off the Bengals' practice squad last week and cannot be replaced on the 53-man roster because NFL rules prohibit removing a player from roster fewer than three weeks after being signed from a practice squad. The Giants have now placed a total of 20 players on injured reserve this season.

The Giants promoted three players from their practice squad to fill out the roster: guard Eric Herman, defensive tackle Dominique Herman and linebacker James Davidson. They also signed veteran running back Chris Ogbonnaya
