Patriots sign QB Matt Flynn
The New England Patriots have signed quarterback Matt Flynn, the team announced on Friday.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday that it is a one-year contract.
Flynn spent last season with the Green Bay Packers backing up Aaron Rodgers. The 29-year-old appeared in seven games, completing 8-of-16 passes for 66 yards with one interception.
Russini reports that the Patriots wanted a veteran quarterback for training camp and said she was told it “has nothing to do” with Tom Brady's situation.
Brady is appealing a four-game suspension handed down by the NFL for his role in Deflategate. If the suspension is upheld, he will miss games against the Steelers, Bills, Jaguars and Cowboys.

Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to start in place of Brady. The 23-year-old attempted 27 passes last season in his first year in the NFL.
Flynn has played for four different teams over his career and has made seven starts. He has 17 career touchdowns with 11 interceptions and a 61.3% completion percentage.
