Deflategate game-used football sells at auction for nearly $44,000
A football used during the infamous 2015 AFC Championship game between the Patriots and Colts sold at auction at a high price Saturday.
ESPN's Darren Rovell reports that the ball, from the “Deflategate” game in which Tom Brady and the Patriots allegedly knowingly used deflated footballs, sold for $43,740 through auction house Lelands.com. The ball made its way into the public domain through a fan, who received it after Patriots receiver Brandon LaFell handed it to her after Pats running back LeGarrette Blount scored a third-quarter touchdown.
Rovell notes that although the balls were reinflated properly at halftime, they were the same balls used in the first half, according to the Wells Report.
The ball sold six months to the date of New England's 45-7 victory over Indianapolis.
The appeal of Brady's four-game suspension from commissioner Roger Goodell for his role in the scandal is pending.
