The San Francisco 49ers signed running back Jarryd Hayne to their practice squad, the team announced Monday.

Hayne, 27, was waived by the team on Saturday.

The former MVP of the National Rugby League in Australia signed with the 49ers in March. He quit rugby last October to pursue an NFL career.

In six games this season, Hayne has carried the ball eight times for 25 yards. He also has one catch for seven yards. Hayne has spent most of his playing time at returner, returning eight kicks for 76 yards.

The 49ers (2–6) host the Atlanta Falcons (6–2) on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium at 4:05 p.m. ET.
