Bet on the Chargers and Eagles in their primetime games against the Raiders and Redskins, respectively, this week.
As the regular season winds down, NFL bettors are treated to an extra primetime game on Saturdays. We’ll look through the Christmas Eve matchup between the Raiders and Chargers and Saturday’s matchup between the Eagles and Redskins as we try to uncover some value late in the year.
The Raiders’ postseason hopes were dashed following a 30–20 loss at home to the Packers on Sunday. Normally, we like to side with the superior home team on a short week, but it’s hard to imagine the Raiders getting up for this game after last week’s tough loss.
The Chargers are a perfect 3–0 against the spread in their last three games as underdogs against the Raiders, and the visiting team has dominated this series in recent years, going 7–3 against the spread in its last 10 games in this matchup according to the OddsShark NFL Database.
Saturday night’s contest has a little bit more at stake when the Eagles host the Redskins in a game that has major implications in the NFC East. Philadelphia has failed to impress all season long, and they were just blown out against the Cardinals in front of a national audience on Sunday Night Football.
Normally, we like to back teams coming off blowout losses, and that’s what we’ll aim to do with Philadelphia on Saturday night as we feel they’re underpriced as a three-point betting favorite. The Redskins are just 1–7 straight up and 2–6 against the spread in their last eight games after a win, making them prime fade material for this week’s primetime matchup.
Late in the year, we like looking at some futures as well, and we can’t help but throw a dart at the Chiefs at 18/1 on the Super Bowl betting lines. The AFC isn’t as strong as the NFC, especially with Andy Dalton on the shelf for the Cincinnati Bengals, and Kansas City has played a great second half of football.
If the Chiefs could dodge a meeting with the New England Patriots in Foxboro, they could be this season’s Cinderella squad.
