Police: Seahawks FB Coleman smoked synthetic marijuana before crash
Tuesday January 26th, 2016

Police have recommended felony charges against Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman after he allegedly told officers he smoked synthetic marijuana before a hit-and-run accident in October, according to the Seattle Times.

According to a police report released to the media Monday, officers saw an open package of synthetic marijuana, a lighter and a pipe in Coleman’s car after the crash, as well as three unopened packages.

Coleman was arrested in suburban Seattle on Oct. 15 after crashing into the back of another car and fleeing the scene on foot. Witnesses estimated that he was driving about 60 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Police recommended felony hit-and-run and vehicular assault charges for Coleman, though the decision to charge him is left up to prosecutors.

Coleman is the first legally deaf player in NFL history. He lost his hearing when he was three years old and uses hearing aids. In the huddle, he reads Russell Wilson’s lips as he calls the plays. He played in 14 of Seattle’s 16 regular season games and both playoff games this season.
