Annie Apple to write weekly column for SI.com during NFL season

Annie Apple, the charismatic mom of New York Giants rookie cornerback Eli Apple, will be writing a weekly column for SI.com throughout the 2016-2017 NFL season.
Apple’s column will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the unique experience of an NFL rookie mom, and include her poignant, unpredictable and often hilarious thoughts on topics that extend well beyond Giants football.
“We are thrilled that Annie is bringing her unique voice to Sports Illustrated’s audience,” said NFL editor, Melissa Jacobs. “Annie’s incredible gift of expression is going to add an unprecedented layer to our NFL coverage and we know she will offer insightful and irreverent analysis that will appeal to a range of readers.”
Apple previously wrote a widely circulated guest column for SI.com in April detailing her family’s experience at the NFL Draft in Chicago. Among the highlights, Apple noted the scarcity of dessert options at a league-sponsored reception. “The Commissioner owes me a brownie!” she joked.
After she appeared on a number of media outlets, Roger Goodell did, in fact, send Apple a package of brownies.
“I am seriously excited to be joining the Sports Illustrated team as a weekly columnist during the football season, providing an authentic voice for sports families as well as a front row seat to the NFL transition for players and families,” said Apple. “Sports Illustrated is the bedrock of sports journalism and has been documenting great moments in sports culture and events for more than 60 years. I look forward to continuing that tradition this season.”
In addition to her role at Sports Illustrated, Apple writes for her blog, Survivin America: Making it Through with Humor and Hope. She will also be a television contributor for ESPN’s Sunday Countdown this season.
Previously, Apple worked as a writer and producer for national news programs on NBC—Weekend Today Show and NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw— and CNN’s American Morning. She also worked at the NBC and CBS affiliates in Philadelphia
Apple’s SI.com column will debut on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
